Well, we are excited! We finally satisfied our two foot-itis buying an Irwin 37 Mk II CC, coming from a Bayfield 25. We gave the deposit in the fall of 2019, with remainder given in spring 2020 for launch at Lake Champlain, Vermont to sail her home to Lake Ontario. Tick, tick, good so far........but then Covid happened. It's now spring 2021 and she still sits in Vermont, the wrong side of the border! Now we have a new plan (ongoing, seemingly ever-changing) to get her reunited with us.
So, the new plan. The new plan is a lot like the old plan, ..... but now with a lot more steps. Also, we no longer live in Ontario, as we moved when releasing from the military. We are now living in New Brunswick. So, we need to fly to Vermont, then quarantine, then de-winterize the boat, and drop the mast. This enables us to travel through the canals to Lake Ontario via the Chamby, Saint-Ours canals, then the locks on the Saint Lawrence seaway. Once in Ontario, yes, quarantine again.
For those good with geography, yes, Lake Ontario is the wrong way to get to New Brunswick. So, why Ontario? Well, we thought while we had to move the boat anyway, we would visit family for the warm summer period that we are close. Also, at the beginning of June we will be taking the/ RYA- Day Skipper course in Kingston, Ontario with Topmast sailing school. But hen, oh my, we will have the boat, quarantine free and will get a chance to sail all summer without interruption. Okay, probably boat projects, lots of boat projects, there always seem to be boat projects, with brief periods of sailing. But then, our fall plans, Ta-DA!. Big plans, hopeful plans, living life to the fullest plans. Covid-19, vaccine and all other variables dependent, we want to take the boat down the Eerie Canal to New York, turn right and head to a warmer winter place than New Brunswick. Bahamas, Exumas, and Cuba, are all good options to spend a winter we feel, maybe others? We will see where life and the weather guides us.
